利用语境可以提高猜词悟意的能力。
学习了语境知识后，我们知道阅读材料中的每个单位词都与它前后的词语或句子甚至段落有着相互制约的关系。 因此，我们完全可以利用语境推测、判断生词的词义。 具体的讲：
根据定义线索猜测词义
定义句的谓语动词一般为：be,mean,represent,refer to,define,be known as,be considered as,constitute,be called等。例如：The people you see fighting, crashing cars or jumping from buildings are not actors,of course. They are called stuntmen.根据前句，我们可以推断出stuntmen的意思是“特技演员”。
根据标点符号线索猜测词义
在文章中，作者往往通过使用逗号、破折号、冒号、分号、引号、括号等来进一步解释生僻难懂的词，这些标点符号通常是用来表示同位关系。 例如：
1）The harbor is protected by a jetty—a wall built out into the water
2）This is an unanswerable question indeed:it is hard enough to measure influence;it is even harder to decide what is good and what isn‘t.
测词义
1）Select any of these periodicals:Time Magazine,Newsweek,Reader‘s Digest of The New Yorker.
2）She is studying glaucoma and other diseases of the eye.
（尽管这句话不能告诉我们glaucoma的准确意义，但我们可以猜测它是一种眼病）
根据句子之间的关系，如对比关系、因果关系等猜测词义。例如 ：
1）Jane was talking with others while Eliza remained reticent all the time.（对比关系）
2）Peter was not frugal since he spent money so freely.（因果关系）
